We continued our summer holiday with the sixth edition of the SummerWell festival which took place between the 13th and 14th of August at Stirbey in Buftea. And it’s the festival location that gives us that special vacation feeling, because how different can you get to feel at Stirbey if not as you were taking a long summer walk between trees and on an expanded story worthy land?
We took time for a walk on the “SummerWell” territory and we imagined how Stirbey and Bibescu families used to live here back in the days. The walk started after the lemonade stall, where the crowd was getting smaller and the trees crowns were creating some kind of a protecting space, leaving just enough room for a couple of sun rays. We passed the chapel, leaving the ad-hoc cinema organized by Orange on our left and we crossed the bridge over the lake just to arrive once again in the middle of the action, where you had two options available: left (with the bars) or right (with food).
It was our second time at this festival, the difference was that last year we also had Erik with us in a pram, while this year we had only Gabriela Atanasov in our “care” and she kept us busy all the time. We were not allowed to sit down or to drink a Jagger, absolutely nothing! She organized our range through the woods and finally got us in the middle of the crowd with our hands in the air, just before Hurts started their performance. Truth be told, it was totally worth it (and I think you’ve watched the Snapchat videos), we sang with them like we were in “Heaven” praising this “Wonderful Life” that we are living.
Right after the concert, Theo Hutchcraft announced on social media: “Romania, that was one of the best shows of the year. Thank you @SummerWellFest. Big Love. X”.
The same super cool atmosphere could be felt during the Years&Years concert as well, when the main voice, Olly Alexander, walked into the scene wearing a traditional Romanian hat along with our flag. The last festival moments were spent near the main stage where The Chemical Brothers came with a galvanic show that lasted for more than two hours.
The entire domain was enlightened with beautiful garlands and from a place to another you could find light signs saying “Wish you were here”, “Kiss & Tell” or “A Festival Like a Holiday” the last one referring obviously, to the SummerWell festival.
And since we’re talking about the lightning, the “AXIOM” installation made up by Kit Webster (Light Artist) was one of my favorite visual attractions at the festival, because it united some awesome projections with electronic music. I’ve spent some time in this “lounge” – can I call it lounge (?) during both festival nights in the concert breaks and I took some really cool photos. And when I say super cool I am talking especially about the installation light beyond us that was penciling our bodies in the dark and made us look like we were part of a band.
P.S. Mihail Sadoveanu used to come here, at Stirbey, for fishing. It all makes sense now.
Enough with the words now, we’ll leave the photos speak for us. Enjoy! Big thanks to Orange Romania for having us, we will cherish those memories forever.
